To kill in cold blood takes a rather special person. The murderer has to plan, contemplate, visualize, commit, and, ultimately, kill. Personally, I don't think I could kill anyone; I don't even hunt or fish (not that I judge anyone that does), because I don't like hurting animals. However, I don't mind squashing a bug or eating meat; I have limits, and my sympathy for animals only goes so far. I don't like killing animals because it makes me feel bad, but I wouldn't kill a human because I think it is morally wrong. Where was this sense of morality constructed? Was it nature (my genetics), or was it nurture (my upbring and culture)?
In Macbeth (the character), I see a man whose initial reactions to the thought of murder seem to indicate that both his upbringing and genetics lead him to know that murdering in cold blood is morally wrong, regardless of the advantage he gains from the killing. I'm not comfortable accepting that Macbeth's natural instinct was to kill King Duncan because it was advantageous for Macbeth and the most efficient way for him to become king.
The ideas of nature v. nuture, absolute morality, and natural instinct are all very complex. But, I'd like to hear your two scents.
I believe that things such as murder are 50/50 as far as nature vs. Nurture.
ReplyDeleteSometimes there are events that happen in peoples lives that make them want to kill others, sometimes peoples are really born with a mental deficiency.......
i think the world has change from good to worse people aint scared to kill, bc sometimes they want to get something they cant get since they dont have money but people that do have money they dont have to kill to put money in the table for the family they got all that and some people become violet from video games they play or movies they watch just so they can become like the actors.
ReplyDeletenature can sometimes drive a human crazy and cause them to do things that they dont want to but you should never kill a human of course unless it is to save your own life but hunting and fishing is all good,,and it taste good to.
ReplyDeletenurture and nature can have two totally diffrent ways from chamginf from good to bad real quick and different. it can affect people as well and have different impact on them.
ReplyDeleteI think that people will do what ever it takes to become pwerful. people today are not afraid of death and will murder anyone if it benefits them. nurture is helping someone and nature will cause someone to do things they might not be able to take back.
ReplyDeleteI think it is both nature and nurture when it comes to peoples actions. I think most of the time your first reaction is nature but once thought through is nurture.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the idea of killing someone to be wrong. Sometimes people kill people because of a certain reason and do not feel like murder is wrong. With Macbeths idea of killing Duncan was go become king and all powerful and that's what most murders want "power. " it all gas to deal with greed and wanting something which is nature and sometimes people who kill realize it was not worthy or the right thing to do so nurture is the opposite argurment.
ReplyDeletethe thought of what is wrong and what is right is thought to us though our lives and some are thought differently then others i believe that if you excluded the mentally insane and just looked at sane people u will find that most will not kill in could blood because they have been raised to believe that it is the wrong thing to do
ReplyDeletekilling is wrong no matter what the case is. people dont think things through all the way and just do it. but some people believe killing is okay because that person has done something extremely wrong to them or someone they know.
ReplyDeleteI think that no human on the face of the Earth is naturally born to kill. I think that there may be some people that are good at killing because the way they were brought up, and the way their mind works. I believe it;s morally wrong to kill somebody in cold blood, and I think Macbeth believed in that moral. However it was possible that since he had been so used to a power struggle society and that power was everything, his nurture, or culture and upbringing, taught him that he should always pursue power, even if he knows he will feel remorse and regret later.
ReplyDeleteNo human being is born with the intention to kill but that doesn't mean that the idea of killing being wrong is naturally in our blood. I believe that morals surface through the way people are raised. Good core values and morals are learned and the way a person looks at murder is no different.
ReplyDeleteyea man i totally know what u mean man... personally i think that if a person were to be a natural born killer it would have to had been tought to him. its not a nautral born instinct to have the vibe to kill someone unless the person is just insane. A human naturally knows the difference from right and wrong... most of them
ReplyDeleteI dont think any human being is born to kill. some people may have the mind set to kill because of how they were raised, or what they've been though in life. Yes nature can drive people out of there minds but that does give you the right to kill anyone. Now Macbeth on the other hand took his power out of hand. he believe in morals but had way to much power to where his culture and upbringing, taught him power was everthing.
ReplyDeleteI believe a killer is born with a natural stigma to cause pain and anguish to others. Though at the same time I believe the persons environment determines how that person handles that stigma and teaches them how to control it.
ReplyDeleteI think that at the core of everyone, we are sinful people and have the capability to kill. We learn not to do sinful things as we grow up.
ReplyDeleteThey each play a huge part in a person's general thinking process. but as far as the sense of morality, that was without a doubt in the nurture category. because our cultures have changed over the past alot, a whole lot. there's no way the moral standards of even the 1900's compare to our views now, people from that time would probably not like us being open minded. but as far as killing i believe it's a little of both. Your genes do pass down and you could get your grandma's short-temper, but how your brought up also play's a huge part. for example, if your brought up as a nazi you are going to kill, but if your brought up as a monk odds are your probably not going too.
ReplyDeleteI think that some people were born to kill no matter how they were raised. They could have had a good of childhood as anyone else and still have something inside them that tells them killing is ok. But for the most part I think that how you were raised reflects how you are going to act when you get into the real world.
ReplyDeleteI believe all people make the choice to kill or not to kill. My personal oppion people choose the wrong choice by killing someone because they dont have God in their life. So yes people have the choice to choose to kill or not to kill.
ReplyDeleteKilling to pretect a loved one or yourself is understandable if it is the onlice choice you have, but killng for power or money is not a reason to kill. Life is a gift and should be treated like one.
ReplyDeletekilling is an emotional response in some cases when a person has not been brought up to kill. i think people decide to make the choice to kill.
